Stone Lion reached out to me after hearing my first single, ‘Sailing On’, on Reddit. I was just starting out again after 10 years away from music and hadn’t received any real feedback. To be honest, I didn’t think that much would come out of it when he asked if I wanted to collaborate. I’m happy to say I couldn’t have been more wrong! It’s easy for me to get into a cynical mode and I had never really connected with other musicians online. After listening to some of his riddims and other work, I realized this was a serious musician and producer with a lot to give to the world.
Stone Lion’s riddims are full, energetic, and show a deep knowledge of and appreciation for what makes reggae great. He effortlessly combines sampled instruments and effects with excellent guitar and bass playing. A lot of musicians can either play or produce: Stone Lion does both. Additionally, he is a great communicator and projects are organized (if you’ve collaborated before, you know how important this is). Perhaps most important, he’s just a solid dude and I’m proud to call him a friend.
Since linking up, Stone Lion and I have collaborated on and co-released several tracks:
He also played the bass on ‘Humble Me’ and has provided an extra set of ears and invaluable advice on a number of other tracks. I look forward to hearing what’s next from him and to our next collaboration. If you are looking for a reggae producer to work with, I definitely recommend hitting him up!
